Not the kind that swallow houses, though smaller ones have hit in the twin cities , they have Sandstone caves along the river.
Two boys died awhile back when one caved in on them.

This area is known for granite quarries but this was an area with a lot of dug out and artesian wells and large outhouses. More than a few people have said they have had the unknown remnant of both cave in and some times the hole is not small.
I am hoping and some what confident that it is a long dead Elm tree rotting out as when I first came here there were seven trees on the lot and six of them were elms or remains of one.
The hole by the out shed is probably just the Elm tree that was once there.

When I put in the paver stones patio, as one side bordered a steep hill, I put in deep base on the edge, class two granite at least eighteen inches deep and while digging down brought up old fire scared bricks, bottles and other garbage.
Maybe it was another dumping hole.
