Four hours of sun shouldn't hurt the majority of hosta. I have one bed that gets sun until about 1:00 and, if watered, they are doing just fine. I think you also get better blooms if they get some sun. I think the really hot afternoon sun is hard on them, but if you keep them watered they will still do okay.
