Bob, your Hernia is a hybrid with Stapelia or something simular. That is why the stems are so much larger and the flower is typical Stapelia. If shipping wasn't such a hassle I would love a stem cutting. I purchase many from 'Miles to Go' and 'Smoley's Gardenworld' but I havn't seen one like that. Enjoy it my friend.
That crested Hurnia is dead now. Last winter it just shriveled up and died. It did bloom every summer before cresting. I purchased on ebay another one crested the same and it also died for me. Most of my other Asclepiads (family name of Hernias and Stapelias and a lot more) are doing very well but not blooming. It seems that most of my plants takes a few years to size up to bloom.
