Chantelle--
Both Brugs have always grown in these 2 lg. pots. NOT planted IN them, htough.
If you read my primer--it describes the pot-in-pot method of growing brugs.
The brug is planted in a lg. black, Nursery pot with round holes cut out around the pot.
This black pot is then planted into the Lg. deco pot. And--there it grows, happily into a big plant.
Because you have to take the brug in for the winter, you will be hacking the roots which grew out from
the black pot's holes. Lift out the black pot and take it down the basement for the winter
to start its dormancy time.
Because I never planted my brugs directly into a bed or a lg. pot--this allowed me to just take the black pot
down my Shop for the winter. This method kind of keeps the roots pruned at all times.
Donner just plants her rooted brugs straight into her beds. Having increasingly moved it up in pot-size she is able
to grow a lg, flowering brug from a cutting in one season.
IF you lived South--you would plant your brug directly into a permanent location--and it would grow
into a small tree.
Using the pot-in-pot method--most of my Brugs have grown quite large and covered in blooms
in 3 years from a cutting.
If this sounds complicated--DO read through the "Seasonal care id brugmansias" Primer I think I sent you???
I have changed a few things since I wrote it.
