@nicodiangel_no I'm from north western MN and I grow lots of Semps outside. I have very sandy soil and live on a hill and they've done well here and increased greatly as Greg said. My mom lives close and she has heavy soil and the Semps I've given her have done well also. I've tried bringing them in in containers with tender succulents and the Semps don't survive the winter inside so I'm in agreement with Bev and Greg about them being great outdoor plants. I've ordered from The Sempervivum Patch that springcolor mentions above and from valleylynn who moderates the Sempervivum data base along with Goldfinch4 who has The Sempervivum Patch. All of the plants I got from them have done well so I would highly recommend them. Good luck!
