Fire ants are evil, and not native to the US so you should get rid of them. Ant bait is most effective, and is a targeted solution that only kills the ants, as they pick it up and take it back to the nest. Unless the queen is killed, the nest will regenerate no matter how many workers you kill off with things like boiling water, and Over and Out.

My favorite brand is Aamdro, but it shouldn't be used within 6ft of any growing vegetables. Another brand, Come n Get It is approved for edibles, but you need to get it fresh or the ants won't take it. It goes rancid very quickly. So buy and use it right away for best results.
