I don't have a green thumb and don't have much knowledge in gardening. However, I was asked to prepare horticulture report during our Garden Club meeting. This is the time for myself to learn about gardening and share my learning with my club members. So I would like to collect some info regarding planting in the Fall. Our first meeting will be in early September. I believe the weather in Houston will still be quite warm or maybe even hot. Here are my questions:

1. What kind of plant should we consider that would last through the Fall season?
2. Do we need to prepare the ground for planting?
3. I happened to have some mature Double Knotout roses in my garden which is about 4-5 foot tall. Can I cut it down to 2 foot?

Thanks!

Tina
