I guess the leaves on #1 are too narrow to be a Hosta:

By the way - if you get into propagating plants by division, or saving seeds, it helps to print up labels BEFORE going outside to dig up and divide a plant, or collect seed pods or flower heads. If you're like me, doing it in the other order means that they get mixed up before even getting indoors or into their new pots.

(It's also smart to have the pots and potting soil ready, or their new holes already dug, before digging up a plant for division. If you're saving seeds, AT LEAST have written labels ready for the collecting bowl and the drying envelope or paper plates. I like to have already printed out enough labels for my seed-trading Zip-Locs before collecting the seeds, but that's not necessary. )

I know that the author of an article is experienced if every second or third line is about having the clearly written labels all ready first, then TIED TO a plant division, then some label that is WATERPROOF and slow to fade permanently attached to the plant or pot. That way we only lose 10-20% of our labels!

I never deliberately throw away a commercial seed packet or plastic plant label. I put them all into the same box so I can go back later and re-read them (SOME might have realistic growing advice, SOME day!)
