Here's a new seedling I've been watching this year. We get just cold enough in winter that most coleus don't survive (tho usually a few might), but generally seeds do with no problem and I have them coming up like weeds! Most I just discard as uninteresting, but I do pot or transplant quite a few of them. This is one of those I took a liking to. Hard to see in the photo, but new growth is a vibrant deep red, edged with glowing bright yellow. Some leaves also have a hint of pink veining. The yellow fades to a light green on older leaves, but the red stays. Leaves are fairly large. I don't know the parentage, but I'm pretty certain that it has either Kong 'Mosaic' or Kong Jr. 'Scarlet' as either a parent or a grandparent. I also had a yellow(ish) variety nearby least year that may have contributed as well. For the life of me I can't remember which one it was.

Sorry, the leaves are a little beat up as squirrels have been using it as target practice with acorn caps. Glare

Pic shows a slight green tint in the new growth that isn't really noticeable in person.
