Perhaps they are more practical because of their shear size. That's why I purchased my three. They were large enough to grow anything. I just have to figure out what I can grow this fall so that I can put them to good use. Rather than utilize their self-watering aspect, I will more than likely simply use them as a super-raised bed, allowing that self-watering compartment to catch whatever drains.
