Lin they may do better in a warmer climate that do not have heat on in the winter. I discovered that was why I was killing mine. If I put them in the sunroom that has electric baseboard heat they died. If I kept them in the other rooms that have steam heat they were fine. They do survive dry heat in the house in the winter even if I kept them watered. That was why I started keeping them in a terrarium
That is funny I have the same fish tank you turned into a terrarium. I keep my coleus cuttings in it in the winter. I usually throw the gardenia in the middle but I think I have killed it this summer in to much sun.
