Recent mosquito commercials say that we have over 50 species here. Most are harmless but still a nuisance. Other sites that I have read, do recommend flushing the urns to eliminate the larvae.
Currently don't own any bromeliads, but I do have many potted plants that like to be kept in a saucer full of water. I live next to a marshy area, The Carlos Avery Game Preserve and feel fortunate to have many young toads each year. They are great for dispatching insects and slugs.
