I use a lot of different Alliums with my irises. They go great together, because with almost no foliage, the Alliums take up so little room and still make an impact. I use both Alliums which flower at the same time as my irises to compliment the colours and later flowering ones to extend the season in my beds.
There are a lot of the large purple Alliums like the ones in your picture;
...are among the most popular here. The first one can spread quite a bit if conditions are right - and you let them.
A few of the ones I grow, which tend to not self-seed too much:
Allium caeruleum
Allium cernuum
The white cultivar is supposed to be less likely to spread if that is an issue.
Allium christophii
These are showy but tough as old nails.
Allium 'Mount Everest
These are tall and have more foliage than most, so best put behind the irises.
Allium senescens 'Glaucum'
These are late flowering. Mine are just starting to show colour now. But the special, bluish foliage is great with irises all season:
