cybrczch said:Hi all,

Early September report on the "ugly stick beat" peppers.
The four foot tall Carmen plants are FINALLY starting to set peppers, so of course the stems are bending down (they've long outgrown the support I gave them) and in danger of breaking. None of the other bells in the same bed have set any sizable fruit, but many are blooming.
The jalapeno plants are producing nicely. The habanero have overcome whatever had eaten the leaves off, and I'm getting red peppers from both. Used some in baba ganoush and the rest to spice up roasted tomato sauce.
The banana peppers are chugging out plenty of peppers. I wish I liked them more (prefer thicker wall peppers). Mostly used in sauce and as rings on pizza.
In the pots, the jalapeno is starting to bear, the habanero is blooming (these were nothing but sticks after the hailstorm in May and I wasn't sure they'd even survive). I've gotten 4 bell peppers and a half dozen Gypsys from the other pot. These have gone into salads or mirepoix for other recipes.
I think next year I'm going to re-purpose a flower bed by the garage for peppers - afternoon sun - and it hasn't had any peppers or other veggies grown in it.

weedwhacker - so so jealous....
