Sy I like your idea because it would look 'jungleish' but I don't think either plant would be thrilled with the situation Hilarious!
The medium I use is regular potting soil (I think you call it compost there) mixed with pumice (from vulcanos, not perlite, which is so light it rises to the top of the pot) then I add some sand but not much.
My plants were given to me ages ago and I've managed to keep them alive - they do ok for me, but I mostly treat them like house plants. Except I move them inside in the winter once our rains begin, some time soon now I think.
Within a few weeks of being brought back indoors, they usually bloom. I don't know what type of plants I have, but they almost always bloom around Thanksgiving rather than Christmas, I just assume I have Christmas cactus. nodding
