Missed seeing you at the auction, Lucy. Glad John is okay!! Yes, Bob was scoffing up SDBs and MTBs like mad. I never knew Snow Tree was his!!! Duh. I know him mostly for his daylilies. Jan is a great auctioner but way too easy! I know so many great hybridizers personally. You and John included! I am a very lucky girl! Sometimes I feel like pinching myself.
I was telling Debby yesterday what you bring to this forum, Lucy: the rich history of the iris growers and hybridizers in the northeast (and further) which few know about. So happy you are here!
Of course, Phil and Debby's mother bid against me on many more species, etc. that I wanted (Marion is 'willing' me one of Jan & Marty's delphiniums
) but I can always beg a piece from those two in a few years for free! This is an amazingly giving group. Just wish Polly lived closer. The Maine group was well represented! ISM is theirs too.
You should have seen the car. Three serious gardeners. We went to 2 garden centers on the way.
I bought 5 giant astilbes for the stream area I'm about to try to plant, a new coreopsis and another terrestrial orchid. Then we have a WNEIS (pronounced wee-neez) auction/picnic next week so we took any irises that didn't sell in the car. I did have room for my feet though (I usually don't on these outings).
Oh funny story! I jumped in the car at 7AM after spending two hours deadheading, orchid watering and getting my lunch ready. Grabbed all my stuff and jumped in the car. An hour later, I realized I had forgotten my shoes!!!! So I went barefoot all day!
