Hopefully this won't come across as "preachy" but almost NO new cultivar will bloom at its registered height during the first year of bloom in a garden, or at least that has proven to be the case here. Sometimes it even takes 3 years before a clump will reach maturity and have scapes at registered height. In fact I've grown to expect any new cultivars - if they bloom- to have short to very short scapes the first year! Then of course weird weather can be a factor. This year, a late freeze stunted many early scapes. There was an abnormal number of short scapes in 2016. Some of those with initial short scapes then rebloomed with normal height scapes!! Looked strange!!
