I'm not sure what it is either. It would be good to know a little more history. In a tall glass jar from a nursery? Florist? Friend with odd plants?

To rule out Euphorbia, nick one of the stems and see if it does bleed latex. It doesn't need to be a large nick, just a prick will do it.
