I don't know if you will convince her to cut her plants, lol. Indoors, I don' t think the trunks are going to get much stronger. People can get funny ideas about what a plant can look like and they still think it's "healthy." and good.
I feel sure you could cut them into chunks with a few nodes each and make lots of new plants, but she'd be horrified at the carnage!
I had two goofy ones from work. One I cut all three tops off and stuck them together for a thick pot to root, And then there's a nice bases which I repotted and will grow into a faux bonsai look if any luck. Cuttings look very happy and never even wilted, the base is just starting to show a tiny bit of green.
Plant it and they will come.
