I hear you on the metal labels! I used to be a big fan of the zinc labels, either plain or colored, but I swear I can't keep them in place anymore. I like the idea of using colored miniblind slats. In theory, I put a white vinyl slat label into the ground when I plant something, so that when I move or divide it, I'll be able to find the name even if the above-ground label has gone missing. In practice, I've only gotten a portion of my new plants and bulbs labeled the past few years... *Blush*
