Have you heard of motion activated sprinklers? It's hooked up to a garden house and aimed at the area you want to protect. If the sensor picks up any activity, the sprinkler will shoot a jet of water into your targeted area and scare away the varmints. Just be careful to turn off the sprinkler if you're going to be working in the garden. Netting or light fencing might also work to keep them out or at least protect your fruits.
