Hi all---A really great place to hang out in with fellow gardeners. I found you by accident when searching for something else.

I'd like to share a tip on controlling fungus plants which some of you may already know about. Being an outdoor and indoor gardener, my indoor plants were beseiged with those nasty, plant-destroying fungus gnats. Since I use mosquito bits and dunks outdoors, I tried them in the topsoil of my indoor houseplants thinking the active material would kill off the gnat larvae as it does the mosquito. Glad to say that it worked very well and haven't seen any evidence of fungus gnat activity plus my houseplants aren't keeling over. If you're going to try this, keep in mind that the mosquito bits are effective only on the gnat larvae and not the flying adults. But if you can get rid of the larvae, then you've won most of the battle. Outdoors the fungus gnats aren't much of a problem since climate and natural predators control them. I buy the mosquito bits online but maybe your own hardware stores carry it and the bits are cited as being harmless to plantlife.

Thanks for having me.
