Jeanie, I loose ground planted semps to rabbits and deer.
I also loose a few semps in pots.
I have only been growing semps for 3 years.
I use an extremely porous mix.that doesn't stay damp long.
I buy "rock garden soil " and ad 1/4 th potting soil.
