wildflowers said:Soooo ~ I've been a bit disappointed in the flowering Bidens. I thought it would be attracting much more insects but I never see anything buzzing around it. So, yesterday I went to take a closer look to see what I could see. Boy was I in for a shock! Blinking As soon as I got close, I could see a couple of skippers but they weren't moving.

Apparently, Big fat crab spider has been eating good!!

Tried to get a closer look at the interesting ambush bug. Looks like I need to try again.

I did see another tiny pollen bug. A mosquito. Hilarious!

Hey hey Christine. great pics! I WANT some Bidens for my region! Please share more Ambush bug pics, I've never seen one around here. Your last picture is not a mosquito, it's a long-legged fly. Blinking See his iridescent wings, big head, and relatively str8 legs?
Here's a mosquito for comparison:

"My work is loving the world. Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird — equal seekers of sweetness. Here the clam deep in the speckled sand. Are my boots old? Is my coat torn? Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished." — Mary Oliver, from Messenger
