Have 20-years-old Guava tree that gives great tasting good size fruit 2-3 times a year. But during this season, for the first time, the branches are bending to breaking point with the weight of the fruit, the fruit is falling on floor before they ripen, smaller and not tasting or looking as good. When I noticed that 2 branches were breaking (1.5 - 2 inches in diameter) I went ahead and trimmed off some of the length although it meant sacrificing plenty of green fruit. What do you think is going on with this tree and what can you advise me to do? Should i do extreme pruning and when? Would greatly appreciate your help.
