I think mine split less than some people's because I kept them pretty moist all the time.

And we didn't have any very heavy rains that summer.

And that bed was pretty low, so that if there were some deep roots, they tapped ground water that was always present.

I noticed that, when nights got cool (like down to 50 F), the flavor of Sungold stayed good.

However, Stupice, which had tasted "fair" up to that point, became a total "spitter" as soon as the night temps cooled off. I mean, like, the Stupice tasted closer to "wet cardboard" than to "stale oatmeal" once they got cool. Neither sweet NOR tart, just yucky.
