I use stainless steel tines and zinc coated label plates and I write on them in pencil. I get them from US, Paw Paw Everlast Label Company I think.

I have no complaints. You can see lots of labels in this twighlight photo.

If you need to reuse a used one, flip and write on the other side. If you need to reuse plates that have been written on both sides, with luck you have already reached the end of your life span anyway.

I lied. I cross out and write around.

PS. I also keep a map in Excel for when something plays with the labels like ravenous, pitiless White Cockatoos.
