Polymerous - I appreciate your kind words. Yes, I am lucky that the big Oaks withstood the Hurricane. They are very close to my house, so that could have been a real disaster if they had toppled over in the strong winds.
Something that kept popping into my head as I was doing backyard clean-up .... this is nature's way of changing and creating a new environment. I think that is what is going to happen. The loss of some of the plants has opened up more sunny areas in my backyard. So the landscaping will change in some of those areas.
