She has the best stories to tell - one year her DH was going on the roof to get the ice off the fireplace and she told him to be careful. The back of the roof had melted, but when he stepped over to the front it was icy and as she tells it, all of a sudden she heard a thump and a whoosh and looked out the front window and saw him fly off into the snowdrift. She said she went outside and kicked him lightly and told him to get up after she asked if he was hurt. She took him to the hospital to get him checked out and was laughing so hard when they asked what happened she couldn't tell the story. Every time she tells it she has us all rolling, except her DH of course!
Oh boy -- that sort of thing must happen more often than one would think...
When DH and I were both still working (I worked at home, doing medical transcription), one winter day when he was off but I was working he went outside to try to knock an "ice dam" off the edge of our roof. I didn't think too much of it, until he came in looking a bit more disheveled than usual and said "I'm glad you didn't see that." Those are not reassuring words... when I asked if he had fallen off the ladder, it turned out it had twisted and collapsed, he basically ended up hanging off the rain gutter (fortunately we have a one-story house
) and then fell into a snow bank.
Ginny, Cheryl (and Rick)... I think you all should definitely keep working as long as possible -- someone has to keep paying in so us retired people can keep collecting
.
20-year-old brain envy... definitely not. (body envy... an entirely different thing!). I would not want to be 20 again, on so many different levels... 35 or 40 maybe, but definitely not 20.
