I kinda feel toads in general are getting a bad rap because of a few imports.
I live in Indiana and have at least a dozen toads on my property. I purposely put out shallow bowls of water for the toads. They are a beneficial natural predator of many insects.
I also have many animals dogs, cats, domestic farm animals, and wild creatures and none have been harmed by the toads .
I have Bufo fowleri and Bufo americanus
Yes these toads do have a gland that excretes toxins as a defense but not enough or strong enough to kill another animal under normal circumstances.
It is probably a good idea to know what you have if you live some where there may be a dangerous species.

Please don't harm our native Bufo they do us a great service. Smiling
..a balanced life is worth pursuit.
