It will help those who know more about St. Augustine if you say where you are located, and if frost may happen there, what the temps have been and when you average first frost date is. If you give the location, say a ZIP code, we can figure the frost dates.

If you can describe your soil under the sod, that might also help! For example, would anything grow there before the sod (like vigorous weeds)? Clay, rock, sand, poor soil, good soil?

Maybe also mention what exact date the sod was installed (or how many days it has been sitting in your yard).
