Yes, lighting a gas range with an elecrtric starter with a match or lighter does work, I tried it once during a power outage. We no longer have a gas range, I use induction now, but we do have a side burner on our grill that comes in handy when the lights go out.

The power is still going on and off here, same with the fiber optic phone and TV. It seems to be the downed tree removal, as they lift out these huge root balls with cranes and back hoes, they are yanking on the underground cables. We had more than 1,000 trees down in the neighborhood so it was inevitable.
