Okay, so while I was in Naples, I knew I saw at least one new butterfly. What I didn't know was that I saw two new butterflies. Well, I suppose I suspected.
When I posted earlier about the Skipper I thought was a Dorantes Skipper at the botanical gardens, I was wrong. I thought it looked a little different, and it was missing tails, but butterflies lose their tails all the time. But it turns out I had spotted my first ever Hammock Skipper!
Not even listed in my book!

Now, the other butterfly I saw on Keeywaydin Island during the eco-cruise. We stopped on the island to do some shelling and look at dead fish. I got to explain red tide to some foreigners, though. Anyway, I spotted something flying and went traipsing through the plants. And on the one day I get brave enough to wear shorts!
The first mate yelled, "The trail is over here", to which I yelled back, "I'm not looking for the trail!" It's hard to explain butterflying to others.
So I see a butterfly that looks like a Hairstreak, but not one I've ever seen. And that's because I hadn't! It's a Mallow Scrub-Hairstreak! Also, not in my book.
