Well, that just it: I actually don't know for sure if they are different anatomically, or just gradients of same anatomy. 
Not even sure when (or if) one stops being a papilla, and becomes a fimbriate projection. 
But those pics above would definitely be large enough to be fimbriate projections. I've thought about, and asked about, the whole conundrum for years. I wish it would have been in my mind waaaay back when our Minnesota Chapter of NARGS hosted the Director of the Flora of China project. I've searched the FOC for a glossary, and found a few, but none that address this.
