This is true. They only spray when they feel threatened and they can control the amount/distance of the spray. They only have X amount of spray built up at any given time so they don't want to use it all up & then have none for the next threat.
I read that skunks only have 2 natural predators..... man (by way of automobiles) and owls. This was on several reliable scientific sites.
