Lilli, I wait to plant tulips here too, after the soil has cooled, and I've noticed better performance from them. When planted early I used to see sprouts in early winter, which would get damaged by extreme cold later. They still bloomed fine, but the leaf tips were brown and ugly and the stems weren't as tall.
