@Greene -- it really all sounds a lot more complicated than it is... just jump into a swap and give it a try; I'm pretty sure no one will take away your birthday or anything if you somehow manage to make a mistake...
I've had too many other things going on to join any swaps since the beta swap... but that one was really fun because none of us knew what we were doing
