Lalambchop, I don't know but I did read that deer are repelled by sunflowers! I think it was in a Rodale book or something, but I do remember that it said that they hate them so much that even laying the cut stalks around a perimeter is effective. I'm doing this now and no problems with deer. I've been here only for 2.5 years and my neighbors say that the deer used to walk through our backyards all the time. I don't know if they've moved elsewhere or just hate my sunflower stalks! Anyway, I thought I'd mention it.
