I also find it difficult to use flash especially on any flower where the petals have sparkle dust on the surface. A good friend who is a award winning photographer once showed me how to use flash in the day time and it would highlight just the flower leaving the background black but I was a bad student and have never been able to replicate her results.
Minds are like parachutes; they work better when they are open.
