But seaweed sounds gentle enough Also I have found that there seems to be a reaction when they aren't getting enough sun - they turn green pretty quickly. (or if like what you describe, they show less color) AND winter sun compared to summer sun is another thing to consider - winter sun being far more gentle on the plants
