I found this article about Coco husks: http://homeguides.sfgate.com/c...

For my own gardening, I have used a mix of coco husk chips particularly for my epiphytic plants like epiphyllums and orchids. It is moisture retentive enough but still allows good aeration at the root level. But I don't use it for desert type succulents, too moisture retentive. I have also used coco coir containers itself and adding in bark media for my other orchids, experimenting how they like it there. So far doing well. I also like the coco coir liners for my hanging plants.
