I occasionally do virtual walkabouts all over the world where google has street view. I like to see the gardens and the kinds of plants people from all over the world grow and how they grow them. Tonight I was in the Manila slums in the Philippines (I try to find the poor places in most countries I visit because I'm looking for the more common plants to whatever area I'm touristing in) and came across a plant that I think is a Bromeliad .. the picture is a screen capture, not great but I think there might be enough detail to perhaps identify this plant - at least I hope there is.

FYI - the plants I saw most during my walkabout were Sansevieria, Dieffenbachia, Schefflera and various banana and Bougainvillea. Pretty much everything is grown in containers too with very little bare ground available in this area.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
