Anne, your comment about your cannas/gingers being knocked down by the cold reminded me of something. A friend in Columbia says to always cut them to the ground around Thanksgiving. They are far easier to cut and clean up before they get knocked down. Once they get hit by frost they are going to be slimy and it is difficult to get cutters through the fibrous mess. No significant cold down here yet but I'd better get out and whack back mine today.
