Jamie, I'm assuming the track south of you is Dairyland? It's a GOOD track, and they do well by their dogs. They have a thriving adoption program at that track, as well. It's no harder to "do right" by a greyhound than by any other dog who loves you. Daily walks (or if you're lazy like me, a fenced yard), lots of soft beds - not that they'll use them if a couch/human bed is nearby, and a heart full of love. Just like any other dog.
Well, then there are the multitude of fancy collars some feel compelled to buy, the winter coats, the new vehicle so they can fit more dogs in at one time, the bigger house so there's more floor space for dog beds, etc...
(desperately trying to stay on track of the original thread)
And MULCH! Let's not forget how important mulch is to the well-being of the retired houndie!
It keeps the weeds out of their exercise yard, but for goodness sake, don't use your own wood-chipper to chip up the tree branches - you wind up with some pieces that are precisely the right size to get caught in their feet, and that hurts them (just like sweet-gum balls do)
