My final update for 2016. Here are some of Paul's hybrids that have opened in the last 48 hours.
Garden bed #40. One of the best stems so far (very straight and has survived the wild weather his week without any support) and nice, large out-to-downfacing blooms. Definitely have plans for this one. My wife really likes it too, which helps.
Garden bed #41. Another trumpet. This one is missing a tepal. Unfortunately I don't have any better photos - like the other trumpets so far, it hasn't handled the heat well and has lost most of its colour (in contrast to #32, which fried very quickly).
Garden bed #46. Bit of a different one. Large papillae but they're mostly the same colour as the throat.
Garden bed #50. Latest to open in the garden bed. Definitely planning to work with this one next year (it is small and only one bloom). It has a weak stem (so am thinking of crossing it with #40 and any others I identify as having excellent stems), but the bloom has a number of traits worth working with, I think. Of interest is the fact that the
sepals petals are both quite wide and have a dark outline on the lower half, which contrasts nicely with the yellow.
Finally, a rather unusual one has opened in the tubs out back...
Does anyone know if papillae are dominant?
And with that, I wish you all a Happy New Year and all the best for 2017.
