Great advice from all! I have a Christmas cactus that belonged to my mother who recently passed away. During the last couple of years, it hasn't gotten the best of care, but I want to try to salvage it because it's the only plant of hers left. I will definitely try to root some plants before I repot the big one that is over 3 feet across. The soil feels hard to the touch and dries out very quickly. I am afraid to see what the roots look like. My question if this: Can I cut a cactus back severely in order to make repotting easier? As it is, I'm afraid I will break some of it off anyway. And, it's in a glass pot, so I'm afraid I may have to break the pot to get it out because the pot has an internal rim. The bases of the stems coming out of the soil are very large and woody. Any advice you want to offer will be greatly appreciated!
