The daylilies always just look really scruffy after bloom is done and they just look like they need a bost. I don't think any harm is done if they don't get fertilized at this time but I think they grow better if they do.

If it is really hot and dry never use a really high nitrogen fertilizer. Wait on that until the cooler fall weather and rains.
