I think I mentioned before that in at least one place in northern Minnesota, L. michiganense leaned to a decidedly hot pink. Perhaps it might have something to do with the very acid soils there. That was 20 years ago when I saw them, and the area (along side a four lane highway) has been bulldozed since.
