Thanks for your suggestions, Jill--but my brain is pretty creative when it comes to solving an issue.
My Hopper feeder is already up. Man! It is pretty heavy--even when empty.!
I hung a med. weight metal chain from the big hook under my roof (where my other feeders always hung).
Then I hung a strong S-hook into the chain at a height I found comfortable--(can be moved..of course)
and hung the feeder from that hook. (The feeder's chain has a loop--not a hanger hook.)
It has now been hanging for 3 days. 3 different seeds in each section.
Have not seen any birds visiting it yet. The weather has been pretty mild--so I guess they are not too
desperate for food yet. Besides--I have been throwing a lot of seed in the floor under the patio.
It is a Free-for-all.......Mostly Sunflower seeds so the squirrels have something to eat. And the Doves too.
The oilers I drop on the floor are at least a year or more old. Seems it does not matter to them.
I already hate the starlings....they are devouring all the suet. I am hanging the suets from Aldis
from last year. The one reg. birds were not keen on. I think the Starlings don't care--they are eating it.
SO--now I have 3 different feeders up. plus a lot of seed on the floor .(it is concrete) .
1--a small, open hopper one which hangs above my big patio table. It is emptied quite fast.
2--A small , all metal mesh feeder no one seems to notice---and the new big one.
Come later on--I will put up my big, metal finch feeder and a feeder for Meal worms.
Those will go out in early spring (nesting time).
Want to mention again--that Big Lots has very reasonable prices on their bird food.
