Laundry soap:
1 batch does 40-50 loads.
1 bar of gentle 100% glycerin soap (Castile or Clearly Natural are good brands)
1 cup of Washing Soda (NOT baking soda---they are not the same)
1 cup of Borax
---Get an airtight container and using a cheese grater finely shred the entire bar of soap.
---Sprinkle in the Washing Soda with the soap and mix.
---Add the 1 cup of Borax to this and stir
---Keep sealed in an airtight container and use 2 tablespoons per load.
I flipped when it gave me the best clothes ever!
Now if you're expecting lavender or mountain spring scents you are not going to get that. What you get is this odd smell called clean! Not perfume-y or fake. It just smells like fresh clean clothes!
Also if you're expecting suds you are going to be in for a shock. There aren't any. The water looks kind of white-grey but that's just the soap dissolving and the oxidization starting. It cleans but doesn't harm colored clothing as there is no bleach in this.
Washing Soda is Sodium Carbonate (NOT Sodium Bicarbonate---baking soda). Borax is Sodium Tetra Borate. That is a natural phosphate in the Earth.
When done even my washer is super clean inside.
Neither of these two products contain artificial phosphates, chlorines or dyes that will harm the environment, the plumbing or the water. Nine million uses for these products too. I've taken to scrubbing tubs, sinks, toilets, fixtures, pots and pans and yes...I will wipe down the walls a few days before I paint them this Spring.

Products with just one bar of soap to show you the size.
What the soap looks like.
As you can see with 2 more bars of soap left and tons of the Borax and Washing Soda I have enough to do almost a year's worth of laundry for less then $20.00.
And how much money did you spend on just 1 bottle of laundry soap? Yeah....ready to give Aunt Ida's soap a whirl?
Made a believer out of my husband.
The only thing I do is add a little bleach to my whites but even that considerably less then I used to.
